About Chichiboulie

Who is Chichiboulie?
I’m usually happy, though sometimes I’m not.
I cry a little and laugh a lot.
I love red and orange and pink and green.
I don't like any melons or people who are mean.
I dance and I sing, though maybe not well.
But I’ve bribed all my children so they’ll never tell.

If you’ve made it past that, I guess it’s only fair that I give you maybe just a bit more information about me. Ready?

I am a 30-something mother of 3, illustrator, designer, dabbler in this and that. Prior my current and varied position, I worked in several professional fields and I studied many things, but never art. At least never in an academic setting.

And yet, I always knew I wanted to be an artist, perhaps without ever really knowing it. Colour and design have always been a part of me. While others had doll houses to play make-believe, I spent my time decorating mine and moving furniture about. Back-to-school time was always terribly exciting as it meant new crayons, shiny felt-tips and blank notebooks just waiting to be filled with doodles. And there wasn’t a craft section from my childhood books and magazines that wasn’t read and re-read and tried and re-tried by my little girl hands.

Today I’m thrilled to be able to create things for others. I have such a sense of joy and satisfaction knowing that, along with their packages, I’m sending along a few smiles.

What is Chichiboulie?

It's fun, it's silly, and it's so chichi that it just had to become my company name.  But it wasn't always that way.  Before becoming a company, Chichiboulie existed.
So just where did this odd name come from?  I get asked this question a lot and the answer is, well, Chichiboulie (that's shee-shee-boo-lee) is me, actually.  It's a strange little name that my husband made up for me that seems to have stuck, for better or for worse as they say.

Where is Chichiboulie?

Chichiboulie as a company began in Surrey, England when the first paintings were completed and sold.  Today Chichiboulie's studio is located in northern France, just a tad bit south of the border with Belgium, in what is known as Les Flandres region.  It's flat and often grey but oh so very charming.
